A few weeks ago, we released our first ever version of the Thorium Reader mobile app on iOS. Since then, we have received a wave of support from readers across the globe, followed by lots of helpful feedback on the user experience. With every new face joining our Thorium community, we gain a new insight into our users’ preferences when it comes to app features.

Our goal, especially for the months following the release, is to grow the app in a direction that is relevant to our users. This is why feedback is so important to us, and why it played a huge role in the work we did on the 1.1 version of the mobile app, which is now available!

Before we walk you through the updates and fixes this new release brings about, we want to thank the users who have taken the time to relay their experience on the app to us and encourage anyone who uses Thorium Reader to do the same, as it really makes a difference for us.

What’s new in Thorium Reader?

General improvements and a new search feature in PDF

Since we started working on the Thorium Reader mobile app, one of our priorities has been to make it as interactive as possible, to give users more freedom and agency when navigating a publication. This is why we are extending the search feature, which is currently available for EPUB files, to PDF files.

We are equally glad to announce that in the past few weeks, we have been able to improve the performance of the app when opening a large PDF file significantly. Although we are looking at making improvements for each type of publication in the future, we will ensure that this progress reflects the habits of our users. Keep your eyes open, there will be more improvements related to PDF in the future!

Thorium Reader now available in Danish

New language alert! Since its creation, EDRLab has been promoting accessible and open digital reading across the globe. Naturally, we are now working to make Thorium Reader available is as many languages as we can. We can speak and write in a few languages across our Thorium team, but we are also always looking for people who can help us with languages we don’t know.

Thanks to those efforts, the app is now available in Danish! We’d like to say tusind tak to Nota for their remarkable help with this translation. We would also like to tell our Danish-speaking users that we are always open to feedback regarding language. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you spot a mistake to correct. Furthermore, if the app is not yet available in your language and you’d like to help translate it, get in touch with us! We are always happy to receive help from our community.

As mentioned before, after the Thorium Reader mobile app was released, we noticed that a large proportion of new users gravitated towards PDF. Thanks to those new users and their feedback, we noticed a bug related to Apple Intelligence that affected users when opening a PDF publication. We are happy to announce that with this bug is now fixed.

What’s next for Thorium Reader?

Our Thorium Reader team is dedicated to making sure that the app offers the best experience possible to our users. In the foreseeable future, you can expect more releases like this one, announcing new features, improvements and bug fixes. We have a few priorities aligned for the next few weeks, such as audiobooks, a better way to download content inside our app and a new tap to zoom feature for images. Keep your eyes open and subscribe to our newsletter if you have not yet to learn more about those next releases.

See you soon for more updates!
